Demonstration and Training on Building Traditional Chinese Bamboo House in Rural Areas

Objectives
1. To demonstrate the technology on building traditional Chinese bamboo house
2. To collect and preserve the technical information and make a transfer of technology model
3. To train the local technicians
4. To promote this kind of house for tourism in bamboo regions

Progress
As shown in the photos, the main part of the house was completed by the end May 2003. The inside decoration will be done afterwards in terms of the needs of the local people.

Funding and costs
The activity was jointly funded by Ford Foundation and INBAR project. For the demonstration house at 60 square meters, main costs comprise building materials and labors, i.e., the building materials cost $482, including bamboos, cement and other supplementary materials, and the labor costs $434, it is about 100 labor days.
