Rural development with bamboo
and rattan in Northeast India
The main objectives of the project are to enable
the development of livelihoods utilizing bamboo resources in three
districts, one each in the states of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Although the project has a broad objective of livelihood with various
components, bamboo housing would be one of them. This is a community-based
project where most of the developmental decisions will be made by
villagers themselves.
The project implementation partners are government
of each state who will provide major funding for the project, TAMBAC
(Tamenglong Bamboo and Cane Center), TRIBAC (Tripura Bamboo and
Cane Center) and KOLBAC (Kolasib Bamboo and cane center) in Manipur,
Tripura and Mizoram respectively.
Architect Gaurav Sharma has been actively working
for designing and construction of bamboo housing in India with above
partners.
