According to the Energy Commission of Ghana, it is estimated that 14-16 million tonnes (around 25-28 million cubic meters) of wood are consumed as fuel annually. Due to unsustainable harvest of forest resources the livelihood of forest resource depending communities is directly affected. To ensure the sustainable availability of bamboo as energy supply, bamboo management trainings and workshops were provided. Workshops were also provided to train communities for the production of bamboo charcoal. Energy efficient stoves were distributed to make the use of charcoal more efficient. Next to bamboo charcoal as energy supply, the project also introduced the opportunity to utilize activated carbon as water purification and waste water treatment opportunity.
