DGIS Grant, Act. No. WW125001

During 1998, three Regional Consultations were held, one in each Africa, Latin America and Asia, to develop a strategic research agenda, while building on national research and development capacities as well as national technology assimilation. A model was developed to predict strength properties of bamboo. Meanwhile, bamboo building codes for bamboo engineering were developed. Training workshops were conducted that included technology packages, pilot demonstrations and the distribution of handbooks and manuals. A NetworkingHub was created in the INBAR headquarters in Beijing as well as regional information centers in Africa and Latin America.
