Market Development of Bamboo and Rattan Products

Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar have indigenous and disadvantaged communities that seek a tradition in the utilization of bamboo and rattan, but face a barrier to fully develop this sector. To improve the quality, market opportunities and resource availability, the project focused on up-scaling of current practices and technical knowledge transfer to develop this sector. Bamboo rehabilitation and management training enabled 25 community artisans to improve current practices. New skills in bamboo weaving and furniture production now enable the export of these products to international markets. In addition, new utilized bamboo management techniques enable farmers to produce larger and thicker quantities of bamboo shoots.
