Since its establishment in 2014, the INBAR Construction Task Force has successfully built an effective mechanism to develop international standards, disseminate bamboo building knowledge and support global coordination on sustainable bamboo construction. The INBAR Construction Task Force Newsletter aims to share the latest research, project and publication information related to the key experts of the task force with INBAR’s 41 member states and all the stakeholders of bamboo construction. The newsletter is published every quarter of the year (April, July, October and January). The issue of 2016 Q1 includes the following contents: 1. The International Symposium “Bamboo in the Urban Environment” was held from 4-6th May in the University of Pittsburgh, USA; 2. TEDx Talks: Bamboo: 21st Century Steel, delivered by David Trujillo; 3. New Book: Nonconventional and Vernacular Materials, edited by Kent Harries and Bhavna Sharma; 4. Research: Experiments on structural applications of bamboo, carried out by Xu Qingfeng of the Shanghai Research Institute of Building Sciences (Group), Co. Ltd (SRIBS), China; 5. Project: Low-cost cane, timber and mortar housing for El Salvador, implemented by Sebastian Kaminski, Structural Engineer of ARUP; 6. Publications: 6 latest research articles about bamboo construction.
