Crucial meeting heralds forthcoming accession of Democratic Republic of the Congo to INBAR

The Democratic Republic of the Congo on track to join INBAR’s ranks.

On 15 December 2022, Chargé D’affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Wang Hailong met with René Kaam, INBAR Regional Director for Central Africa, and Armand Ciamala Kayinda, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture of the DRC.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on the accession of Congo to INBAR and other issues of mutual interest and concern.

Kaam said that INBAR welcomed the positive progress regarding the ratification process undergirding the DRC’s accession to INBAR, and expressed his willingness to work to strengthen exchange and cooperation with the DRC to support the development of bamboo and rattan industries.

Kayinda spoke highly on past joint projects with INBAR, noting that such endeavours in the bamboo and rattan sectors generate economic benefits, provide employment opportunities, alleviate poverty, combat soil erosion and promote environmental protection in the DRC.

Wang extended congratulations regarding the DRC’s decision to join INBAR, and expressed his wish that he hoped to see practical collaborative projects launched in the DRC in the near future.
