Introductory Training Session between INBAR and Saint Lucia
On 13 August, 2020, the Introductory Training Session between INBAR and Saint Lucia was held. It started at 6:00 p.m. and ended at 8:00 p.m. The Microsoft Teams platform was used to carry out the event. Its objective was to discuss the possibility of collaborating with the Island of Saint Lucia and incorporating it as a country member of INBAR, an intergovernmental development organization that promotes environmentally sustainable development using bamboo and rattan.
Mr. Wilson Jn. Baptise, CEO of Global Enterprises Management Solutions, gave a welcome speech for the participants. The meeting was attended by Hon. Guy Joseph, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Economic Development for Saint Lucia, who believes that in the not too distant future Saint Lucia will be a full member of INBAR. For this authority, bamboo is “one of the most resilient plants”.
Mr. Pablo Jácome, Regional Coordinator for Latin America and Caribbean of INBAR, gave an introduction to INBAR´s objectives and work done around the world. Audiovisual material, such as a video about key aspects of bamboo and a presentation about “An Introduction to Bamboo” done by Mr. Borja De La Peña Escardó, Global Policy Officer, was included in the session to show the importance and benefits of using bamboo. To close the meeting, questions and answer session related to the demand, uses and transportation of bamboo between participants and INBAR´s officer was very active. As Mr. Pablo Jácome mentioned, this webinar is expected to be the open door in Saint Lucia to make some real contributions to the development and use of bamboo as a truly green gold and be the second Caribbean Country member of INBAR.
