As a renewable resource, bamboo is a potential substitute for less renewable tropical hardwood. It can generate products ranging from modern engineered bamboo structures, flooring, furniture, cabinets, and industrial and household utilities to wind turbines. INBAR in collaboration with CEMCA, as part of the project Technology Transfer for Making Laminated Bamboo Products, is organizing a training programme to build capacity on how round raw bamboo culms are processed into hardwood-like substitutes. The training will cover technical, business and equipment aspects of engineered bamboo (also known as scrimber and laminated composites) production and value addition including:

  • Bamboo plantation and management techniques
  • The production technique of bamboo laminated lumber
  • Production technology of bamboo laminated lumber products
  • Bamboo charcoal production technology
  • Production technology of bamboo scrimber
  • Production technology of bamboo scrimber flooring
  • By-products process for re-utilization

Target Participants

The training will prioritise applications from entrepreneurs, service providers, researchers, facilitators, and policymakers from Brunei and Malaysia, however interested candidates from India and other parts of the world are also encouraged to participate.
