INBAR’s side event at the 17th Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF 17) is aimed at showcasing the potential of bamboo as an effective tool for ecosystem restoration coupled with economic development.  This session will include:

  • A global overview of bamboo’s potential for land restoration;
  • The role of strategic planning and implementation for bamboo development in China;
  • A case study on the rehabilitation of mining landscapes with bamboo in Ghana;
  • Improving existing ecosystems, rather than planting;
  • Can restoration with bamboo be profitable?

The event is highly relevant to the thematic priority of UNFF 17: “Reversing the loss of forest cover”.  It is also relevant to the thematic priority 3 “Mobilizing financial resources and strengthening scientific and technical cooperation; promoting governance frameworks to advance implementation; and enhancing cooperation, coordination and coherence for sustainable forest management”.

The event be led and moderated by INBAR from its Beijing Headquarters.
