Webinar: Green Development with Bamboo in Europe
The future of bamboo in Europe is promising.
As part of the new European Green Deal, a ‘European Climate Pact’ will be launched on 27 May. The Pact aims to encourage individuals, businesses and governments across the European Union to commit to meaningful climate action.
The launch of the European Climate Pact is particularly important in the context of the COVID-19 virus. The European leadership has confirmed that innovative, effective, clean and sustainable tools will be needed to deal with the economic and social fallout from the pandemic. Nature-based solutions such as bamboo could be a critical way to boost European countries’ economies in a sustainable way.
The European Climate Pact will be an important part of the Union’s future plans, and INBAR is willing to contribute to its development and implementation by offering all the potential that bamboo as a nature-based solution can provide.
This European Bamboo Webinar explored several of these possibilities: from the development of educational research programmes on bamboo to teach the value that the material can bring into sectors like construction, agriculture, or industries dedicated to substitution of carbon-intensive materials, as well as bamboo’s contributions to the circular economy, by discussing the role that this plant could play as a critical component in the transition to more circular production and renewable products. Finally, the webinar provided practical examples already developed in Europe which show the potential and scope for increasingly using bamboo in sustainable construction.
