Introduction:

Standards promote innovation and competition, contribute to bamboo product rationalisation and quality control. Internationally recognised standards provide solid basis for the identification of trade regulations at national and international levels, at the same time, help improve efficiency and reduce barriers. Established in 2015, the ISO technical committee on bamboo and rattan (ISO/TC 296) is responsible for developing international standards on bamboo and rattan and derived materials. This session will introduce ISO/TC 296 and its work as well bamboo standardisation and bamboo innovation practices in China.

Panelists:

Dr. Fang Changhua: Professor at International Center for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR) in Beijing, China, Ph.D. in Wood Science and Technology from University of Montpellier, France. After he completed a 4-year Postdoctoral Fellowship and Research Associate position at the Wood Research Center of Université Laval, Canada. He joined ICBR and has been working extensively on bamboo properties, modification, composite materials such as culm flattening, densification, and laminates. Since the end of 2018, he has been the manager of ISO/TC 296.

Dr. Liu Xianmiao: Associate Professor, Deputy Division Director of Industry Development, ICBR. Dr. Liu is the Secretary-General of China National Technical Committee on Bamboo and Rattan Standardisation; a Researcher at the National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology in Bamboo and Rattan. His research fields are wood/bamboo composites, bamboo and rattan standardisation.

Dr. Wang Ge: Professor and Research Group leader of Bamboo Fiber Composite Materials in International Center for Bamboo and Rattan (ICBR), Ph.D. Supervisor and a leader of the 13th Five-Year Plan Project on Value-added Bamboo Material of China. He has been engaged in researches and development of bamboo/wood composite material for over 20 years. He has more than 140 publications, 20 authorised national patents, and had won many appraisals national wide, including a first prize of the National Scientific and Technology Progress Awards.
