International Horticultural Exposition 2021, Yangzhou, China
Under the theme ‘Green City, Green Life’, the six-month-long International Horticultural Exposition 2021 (Yangzhou Expo) aims to showcase how horticulture and greening can be an important part of future urban planning and sustainable lifestyles. Yangzhou, a prefecture-level city in central Jiangsu Province, has a long horticultural history. The Yangzhou Expo is sponsored by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China (NFGA), China Flower Association and the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province. It is co-organised by the People’s Government of Yangzhou Municipality.
The INBAR Garden
INBAR will have a space at the Yangzhou Expo, similar to the Bamboo Eye Pavilion and Garden at the International Horticultural Exhibition 2019, Beijing, China.
The INBAR Garden is located in the centre of the Yangzhou Expo site. It has a total area of 3089 square metres. The design of the Garden highlights the uses and advantages of bamboo in horticulture and landscaping. The Garden features two low-carbon pavilions: The Fish-Shaped Bamboo Pavilion, located in the north of the INBAR Garden, is a 280-square-metre structure made using round bamboo, in the shape of a fish. It reflects the ingenious application of traditional bamboo building materials in modern architectural design. The Waterside Pavilion, located in the south of the Garden, is a traditional Chinese structure made using glued laminated bamboo in place of wood. It shows how modern bamboo materials can be used to build traditional housing.
Throughout the Yangzhou Expo, INBAR will work with worldwide partners to hold bamboo and rattan exhibitions, popular science demonstrations, cultural events and other activities to vividly demonstrate the potential of these plants as part of greener lifestyles.
On 8 April, INBAR celebrated its ‘Honour Day’ at the Yangzhou Expo. Read about the event here.
