Seminar: Bamboo for Conservation of the Giant Panda
Introduction:
The giant panda, one of the most iconic and beloved species in the world, subsists almost entirely on bamboo for their food and shelter. Currently, there are about 1800 pandas in the wild. However, the species faces a number of threats in the form of infrastructure development, agricultural development, fragmentation and isolated patches of bamboo forest, and climate change. This seminar will focus on the role of bamboo in the conservation of the giant panda, share the latest developments at the new Panda National Park in China and their conservation experiences, exchange research progress on bamboo habitat development and management, bamboo nutrition and panda diet, and discuss how to improve the bamboos as food and habitat to formulate recommendation for further researches and actions needed.
The seminar welcomes experts, practitioners, researches, administrative and students, who are interested in conservation biology, bamboo forest ecology to participate.
