Bamboo forests have provided humans with certain ecosystem services for many years. An ecosystem assessment of bamboo forests can raise awareness of their importance to policymakers, investors and local communities. However, a lack of common methodological approach and tools has hampered clear ecosystem service assessments of bamboo forests in the past. This report aims to fill this gap, by (i) reviewing current assessment approaches and (ii) proposing a pragmatic yet straightforward framework for assessing ecosystem services from bamboo forests. This research was conducted by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) as part of the CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) and supported by INBAR.
