INBAR DG meets with Ambassador of Jordan

INBAR Director General Ali Mchumo (left) and Jordan’s Ambassador to China Hussam Al Husseini (right) met at INBAR HQ in Beijing.

The meeting is an important step forward for Jordan’s accession to INBAR and future collaboration on bamboo and rattan.

On 10 January 2023, Ali Mchumo, Director General for INBAR, met with H.E. Hussam Al Husseini, Jordan’s Ambassador to China, at INBAR Headquarters in Beijing. Productive talks were held in which opportunities were noted for carrying out bamboo exchange and cooperation, while also discussing Jordan’s accession to INBAR.

Mr. Mchumo welcomed the Ambassador to Headquarters and introduced the history of INBAR. Ambassador Husseini expressed his appreciation for INBAR’s efforts to conduct diverse bamboo and rattan training as well as project activities for Member State around the world. He mentioned that these were instrumental to the cause of global sustainable development, particularly in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation.

He also expressed the hope that bamboo cultivation and utilization could play a new role in helping Jordan cope with climate change and water shortage issues. In light of this, he expressed that he was willing to advocate for Jordan’s accession into INBAR.

Before the meeting, Ambassador Husseini visited the INBAR’s showroom, where he saw firsthand the rich display of bamboo and rattan products, showing the multifunctional nature of the critical forest plants
