International Seminar on Bamboo Ecosystem Services was Held in Ecuador

Bamboo experts from Colombia, Ecuador and India visited Quito, Ecuador to share their experiences with bamboo in their territories.

More than 100 people including students, entrepreneurs and teachers participated in the International Seminar on Bamboo Ecosystem Services, held on June 6 at the facilities of the Central University of Ecuador in Quito.

More than 100 people participated in the event including young people, teachers, entrepreneurs and researchers.

The seminar was attended by the professors Ambrish Kumar from the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology and Rajesh Kaushal of the Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation from India; Juan Carlos Camargo, professor at the Technological University of Pereira in Colombia; Akira Wong, professor at the La Molina National Agrarian University in Peru; Diego García, researcher at the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute and Raphael Paucar, coordinator of INBAR’s Bambuzonía project in Peru.

During the opening ceremony, Mishell Echeverría, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Architecture; Estefanía Arias, Director of Forests of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition; and Pablo Jácome, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of INBAR addressed the audience.

Several topics were presented and discussed at the event, including the presentation of case studies of bamboo from India, experiences of the role of bamboo in the provision of ecosystem services in Colombia, the diversity of bamboo in the Peruvian Amazon and the role of academic research. The attendees were able to clarify their concerns and questions regarding the topics exposed.
