April 13 2017 – Mr and Mrs Lalmingthangi make vinegar using bamboo. They are in the minority in the state of Mizoram, Northeast India, where most people still use bamboo to make traditional handicrafts.
Despite the large amounts of bamboo covering the region, lack of adequate support or links to large markets has stymied the development of a bamboo industry. In this short film, INBAR introduces some of the issues facing Mizoram’s bamboo sector.
A new assessment from INBAR and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) shows the huge scope for development of the sector, in the state and across the entire region.
