Greening food production and consumption: Transforming the highly- polluting and resource- consuming edible bamboo shoot industry into a sustainable value chain in China

In the preserved-food industry, polluting production practices are rife. This can also apply to bamboo shoot preservation and processing. Therefore, the project addresses the urgent need for increased safety and green practices in agro-food processing, while at the same time, ensuring sustainable economic growth and employment generation through bamboo development in newly formed urban areas.
To achieve the project’s objectives, INBAR is building partnership and works together with governments of the Zhejiang and Sichuan Province to enforce Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) bamboo shot policies while transferring knowledge about organic certification, greening, standardization as well as monitoring of clean and safe food production from the EU to target groups in the project areas.
