China
Preserved bamboo shoots, as with a number of products in the preserved food industry in China, are currently produced in a highly polluting and unsustainable way. This project addressed the urgent need for increased safety and green practices in agro-food processing, while also ensuring sustainable economic growth and employment generation through bamboo development in newly formed urban areas.
To achieve the project’s objectives, INBAR worked together with Zhejiang and Sichuan province governments to enforce sustainable consumption and production policies, and to share knowledge from the European Union about organic certification, greening, standardisation and monitoring of clean and safe food production, to target groups in the project areas.
