While there is a growing demand for bamboo and rattan products, which creates opportunities to earn an income through products such as furniture and artisan products, remote communities face challenges to compete with this demand.
This project generated adaptable models for community-based, sustainable institutions, which can support rural development project activities concerning bamboo and rattan. Appropriate public-private partnerships, which connect rural community producers with local and external markets, including those in Europe, were established. The partnership helped to promote innovative marketing linkages and institutional systems.
