This study reviews existing literature on bamboo resource assessment and obtains field-based measurements of sampled bamboo stands to determine the structural characteristics and ecological variation of bamboo in five regions of Ghana, namely the Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Western and Western North regions. The aim is to enable proper planning to inform decision-making and policies for sustainable management and use.

The study was conducted by the Resource Management Support Centre, Forestry Commission of Ghana, with support from INBAR as part of the Inter-Africa Bamboo Development Programme, which is funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
